Early Career Investigators Workshop
The Early Career Investigator (ECI) network is an essential part of the COST Action HERALD (“Hooking together European research in Atomic Layer Deposition”). In future, the scope will be widened to “Atomic or Angström Level Processing”. Regular workshops are organized to help the next generation of scientists to establish themselves as research leaders in the community. Central aims are the creation of a strong network, collaborations, exchanging experience, learning from experienced researchers and acquiring catalyzing soft skills. Creativity is the key to novel research approaches and original problem solutions. But what is creativity and how to promote it?
Everyone uses the term “Brainstorming” for “sitting together and thinking about a problem”. However, instead of a “storm” of ideas the outcome often equals only a slight breeze or produces some unsorted mess of random interjections. Either way, this is certainly not what you were hoping for.
You have ideas, but do not find the time to work on them or to forge them into strong proposals because daily business keeps you too busy. You work extra hours, but still have trouble getting the things done while your to-do list grows longer and longer? Unread e-mails pile up and your colleagues complain about your responsivity or it feels like catching up with e-mails does not leave you time for your actual work?
On top of that, your group meetings are considered tiring and a waste of time? They always take longer than scheduled? Two thirds of the people do not engage in discussions at all and the few people that do either tend to drift away from the topic or start a bitter fight on some details? There is seldom an agenda and people come unprepared? Nobody understands the decisions taken, the items to be put into action and nobody feels responsible?
The above cases sound familiar? This is exactly where this 4th ECI workshop came into play!
The three main themes of the workshop are
- “Creativity – Make Your Ideas Thrive”
- “Self Efficiency”
- “Facilitating Meetings”
Theory will be brought to life by practical exercises in small groups to ensure a memorable experience that find its way into daily work.
Prior to the workshop, the participants will be requested to fill in a questionnaire to identify their background and experience as well as common problems to find their way into the practical sessions.
Tips are provided at: http://www.eurocvd-balticald2019.lu/en/venue-travel/accomodation/
The number of participants is limited to 40.
Register online to the workshop with the conference registration form (in Step 3, please check the box for participation in the ECI Workshop).
